How did the FNL Journal come to be?

While I didn't realize it at the time, the idea for the FNL Journal started way back in 2012, when I began prepping for a bodybuilding competition. 


In 2016, after a 4 year struggle with a negative (and totally skewed) body image, two eating disorders, and a general lack of confidence in myself, I knew I had to do something to change my life. I had hit a wall- even though I was in great shape physically, I wasn't happy with my life anymore, and I so desperately longed for a different reality. 


I decided that I had to make a change. My relationship with myself was at an all-time low. My social life and personal relationships were suffering. I had constant stress about food and what my body looked like. All of my sources of happiness were external (my weight, how I ate that day, what other people said about my body). I knew that a better life was out there, but I had no idea how to get there. 


That thought alone was the first step towards a completely different reality for myself. 


Over the next two years and through many, many challenges and struggles, I was able to completely turn my life around. I overcame my eating disorders. I gained self-acceptance of, and love for, my body. My depression and anxiety decreased significantly. My relationship with my fiancé, friends, and family improved. I no longer viewed myself as a failure- because I no longer based my worth on my body.  I had finally found balance and peace between my physical and mental health.


Those experiences and challenges ignited a passion within me: a passion to help other women struggling with balancing their physical and mental health (including body image, confidence, and self-acceptance), to rediscover that balance. And what better way to empower yourself and change your life than by improving your daily fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle habits?!


It's my mission to reach every woman dealing with those issues (which is way too many of us, let's be honest), and assist her in finding her way to a place of total confidence, success, fulfillment, happiness, and (physical and mental) health. 


We spend too much of our time worrying about how we look and what other people think of us. 


It's time for us to recognize just how capable we truly are, and start living a healthy, balanced life that fulfills us, instead of drains us.
